I got a last minute call up from Tash's management team asking if I was available to shoot stills at her show that night. It was the last show of Tash's Australian Tour and I was on another job nearby (more on this tomorrow!) After I finished up, I raced across to The Enmore Theatre.
Being my first Tash Sultana: Live experience, I didn't quite know what to expect. But from the warm welcome from her and the entire crew to the absolutely electrifying performance I am steadily in awe of this woman and a massive fan of everyone she has around her.
Everyone kept saying that Tash had hit a new level in her performance that night - I kept hearing myself mumble awestruck obscenities every time Tash did something even more incredible than the last incredible thing she did. She's literally a one-woman band commanding guitar, keys, drum machines, synths, the trumpet, a 3 storey stack of looping pedals while mesmerising us with her vocals that are haunting and uplifting at the same time.
Highlight of my night: I was briefed that Tash jumps off her stage riser on to the stage at the end of the song Jungle and that it would be awesome to capture that. So I set myself up for that moment. The moment finally came and I managed to capture an epic leap. This was then immediately followed by a guitar solo that took Tash to the ground in writhing paroxysms as she apparently attempted to tame her guitar. Not content with photographing her from behind, I took advantage of rare opportunity. Skipping past Tash's bearded roadie/guitar tech (who turned out to be her dad Anthony) I seized a rare opportunity to jump off The Enmore Theatre stage into the photographers pit while firing High Continuous Shutter until I came up around the front of Tash.
As I did she looked up from her fret board to fire off an epic middle finger at my lens.
Thanks again to Tash Sultana and her crew for having me and being so welcoming. Special shout out to my David and Regan from Lemontree Music for there unending support of me and my work. Love you guys!
